History of Shoreline Park
From humble beginnings come great things. From all stories and accounts Shoreline Park was just a fish camp back in the 1930’s. As time passed, families started to move to the area. Families named Stuckey, Fomby and Hale.
Over the years more and more families moved into what would become Kowligia Retreat. The area that was the fish camp became an area for families to launch their boats and swim at the beach area. As word spread across the county the property owners could no longer enjoy the beach area due to overcrowding from people who used the beach and boat ramp that didn’t live in Kowligia Retreat.
The beach area was being destroyed and there was no one to maintain the area.
On the 27th day of March 1997 a newly formed Shoreline Park Association held their first organizational meeting for The Board of Directors of Shoreline Park Association. Time was of the essence as the properties were about to go into foreclosure and could have been sold to a land developer.
The properties were purchased on March 28th 1997 from Erma Dell Sexton. A third property would be purchased at a later date.
Members of the Board of Directors included Aubrey L. Bartee, President, Jimmie L. Mears, Vice President, Martha G. Stuckey, Secretary/ Treasurer, Louise Griffith, Melvin Taylor, Jr., Ralph Stuckey and Harold Hale, Sr.
The Board of Directors filed for The Articles of Incorporation with the Probate Judge’s office of Elmore County, Alabama.
As a side note, the old building in the park housed a well and pumping system that supplied water to all of Kowligia Retreat.
Some of the original families are still here - Sue (Stuckey) Chandler. Mike and Lou Fomby, Terry Bozeman (His Mother was a Stuckey) and Harold Hale, Jr.
Many things have changed and many improvements have been made through the years, but we are still a close community.
